Shelter And Shoring Construction
from archive reportTo allow this years excavations in the South Area Lindsay Falck with help from ARUP痴 office in Istanbul designed a roof for the area and shoring for the deep sounding. Steel cables on poplar pole supports were used to support canvas panels which protected all the diggers from the sun and heat and greatly helped the excavations as it stopped the archaeology from drying out. In the deep sounding long steel props and wooden lagging were used to ensure that the excavations could progress safely to the base of the mound.
A large tent shelter was erected over the North Area covering Building 5 which is being put on display. Wooden floors were built around the area and a bridge was built directly over Building 5. This will allow visitors to the site to get a good view of the oldest mudbrick house in Europe.
