The primary research goal this year was to analyse and record data on all clay ball materials from Building 3 in order to prepare for writing a chapter on clay balls for the upcoming BACH publication. To assist with organizing and recording this data, Sonya Atalay had the help of a research assistant, who designed and created an Access database to record present and future clay ball data. To begin the research related to clay ovens and hearths, Sonya completed a search of all previously excavated buildings and organised a list of fire installation features that had been excavated thus far. She also spoke with several team members about future research plans related to the ovens and hearths, particularly with regard to better understanding methods of food preparation and cooking at the site.
