FUTURE PLANS
Irem Erez, an architect from Istanbul, and her husband Selcuk visited the site in September with the aim of gathering information which can be used to draw up architectural plans for a larger museum and store at the site. The museum in the building being constructed at present will provide only 100 sq m of display space. Once a permanent and secure museum has been constructed, we hope that it will be brought within the Konya Museum Service and that new artifacts and wall paintings will be displayed there. The need for further display space will be further increased by the introduction of interactive displays, reconstructions and virtual reality. Our plans for excavation in 1996 depend very much on funding, but the aim is to work for two full months in August and September both on the northern part of the east mound and in the Mellaart area. By that stage the research carried out by the conservationists this year should put us in a position to be able to uncover, treat and perhaps lift larger areas of plaster. It is hoped that we will be joined by a team from Thessaloniki headed by Kostas Kotsakis and by a team from Selcuk University in Konya under the direction of Dr Levent Zoroglu.
